What Is Assistivox?

Assistivox is a voice-controlled document editor that runs in your browser on any device. You speak to it. It writes, reads, edits, and navigates for you.

What it does:

  • Voice dictation — speak your text and it appears in the editor. Punctuation, capitalization, and formatting are handled through spoken commands, not keypresses.
  • Voice editing — say “select this sentence,” “delete last word,” “capitalize,” “undo,” or “go right three words.” The cursor moves and edits happen without touching the keyboard.
  • Text-to-speech feedback — the app reads your document aloud, sentence by sentence, with the current sentence highlighted as it speaks.
  • Keystroke echo — the editor speaks each key and reads back the last word when you complete it, so you always know what you typed.
  • Open and read documents — import PDF, Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx), and plain text files. PDFs with no readable text go automatically to OCR.
  • OCR from scanned documents and camera — point your camera at a page and Assistivox extracts the text. Local on-device OCR runs without sending your document anywhere.
  • AI document processing — use AI to convert scanned or image-based documents into clean readable text. Bring your own API key for OpenRouter or Cloudflare AI.
  • Export to Word — save your edited document as a .docx file with full formatting, tables, lists, and headings intact.
  • Dropbox integration — browse, open, and save files directly in Dropbox through the built-in file explorer.
  • Clipboard reader — paste anything into the clipboard reader and have it read aloud immediately.
  • Scratch pad — a lightweight voice-driven notepad that syncs with your clipboard automatically.
  • Encrypted settings backup — export all your API keys and settings to a passphrase-protected file and restore them on any device.
  • Installable PWA — installs on Android, iPhone, or desktop like a native app, with no app store required.

Everything runs in the browser. Your documents and API keys stay on your device. Assistivox is under active development; features are added frequently.
